Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, ca. 200 to 1000 CE. A hand-built incensario lid of tall, red-ground form with dense white stripes decorating the flared lower rim. The ovoid central section features a raised arch flanking by a pair of abstract avian creatures, and below are 2 legs with feet poking up from the ankles. This lid would have fit over the top of an incensario in order to direct the scented smoke into the air rather than let is dissipate directly from the burning material. Size: 7" L x 7.125" W x 10" H (17.8 cm x 18.1 cm x 25.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-private USA collection acquired before 2000. Complete provenance will be provided to winning bidder; all items from this collection have been appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
