Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. An intriguing pottery vessel of tall, egg-shaped form resting atop a flared foot with dense, openwork motifs. Protruding from the front of the body is a highly stylized anthropomorphic portrait bearing recessed circular eyes, a petite nose, red facial tattooing, and a register of conical nodules protruding along the forehead. The white-ground vessel exhibits a series of abstract curvilinear motifs along the top of the rim, perhaps zoomorphic in form, as well as dense geometric motifs around the foot. Size: 7.75" Diameter x 10.125" H (19.7 cm x 25.7 cm)
