"Jicote" style portrait head vessel boasts a lively polychrome painted decorative program in red, black, and beige hues, and sits on a wide footed base painted with a polychrome, striped design. A decorative band of glyph-like designs circumscribes the top, as is characteristic of the Nicoya. Round protruding eyes with red and black painted decoration , small appliqued ears, nose, labret and mouth, plus red face paint applied from ear to ear and labret to chin. Size: 10-1/4" tall x 9-1/2 in diameter at widest x 3-1/4" in diameter at rim. Provenance: Ex-private Laguna Nigel, CA collection, acquired prior to 1995.
