Pre-Columbian, ca. 250 CE - 950 CE. A powerful example hand built with terracotta clay with detailed coffee-bean shaped eyes, mouth and nose and remains of red and brown pigments. These trophy heads, created in clay and stone, were important religious pieces to the ancients and showed the owners power and rank within the tribe. Size: 5-1/4" long x 3-1/2" wide at widest x 2-1/8" deep. Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
