Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Greater Chiriqui, Diquis, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An impressive gold amulet in the form of a bird, probably an eagle with wide-spread wings, outstretched talons, a long curved beak, and curled feathers atop of its head. Large suspension loop on its back side. Size: 2.5" W x 2.75" H (6.4 cm x 7 cm); gold quality: 66.2 to 70.2% (15.8 to 16.8 karats); weight: 39.5 grams
