Description:

Pre-Columbian, Panama, Chiriqui, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a deep hemispherical body, a flared rim, cord-patterned motifs applied around the neck, and a trio of hollow conical legs which contain small balls that make a rattling noise when jostled. Each leg takes the form of an abstract avian creature with grooved bars suggestive of wings, a lengthy conical 'body,' and protruding heads with serrated crests and discoid eyes. This type of vessel would have been used for ceremonial purposes given its highly ornamental presentation. Size: 7.7" W x 8.7" H (19.6 cm x 22.1 cm).
