China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A phallic amulet carved from a black stone with green and brown inclusions. The male phallus with vivid details, the penis and testicles clearly defined, symbolized virility and fertility to the ancients of East Asia. This example is laterally perforated at the upper end and was likely worn as a pendant or attached to clothing. Size: 3.625" L (9.2 cm)
