Description:

**Originally Listed At $2000**

China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. Very fine pottery figure in the form of a dancer. Highly stylized, the angular form of these dancers in tubular robes emphasizes the strong linear movement of the torso. The flared skirt acts to arrest and balance the dramatic revolving body movement to the left. Although her body is turned towards the left, she looks straight ahead and swings both arms out into a wide arc, revealing the line of the capacious sleeves. Sometimes the dancers only have one arm but this is a fine example of the more pleasing 2 arm version. Ref.
