Ancient Central Europe, probably Austria or Germany, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 1200 to 1000 BCE. A cast-bronze palstave axe head of a sturdy form with a narrow stop bar, a pair of inward-flared wings on either side, and a splayed blade edge with protruding corners. Axe heads like this example are known as 'palstave' heads if they are hafted using a bifurcated head rather than a singular bar. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.
