Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of relatively spherical form with a round but stable base and stone-burnished surfaces. The beige-hued exterior is decorated with an elaborate register of black- and red-painted linear motifs that form diagonal stripes and series of steps along the upper body; the lower body is undecorated. The most exceptional Casas Grandes vessels usually have Ramos-style designs, and examples such as this show how this style required great skill and aesthetic vision. Size: 7.72" Diameter x 6.5" H (19.6 cm x 16.5 cm)

Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
