Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca 1150 to 1450 CE. An interesting pottery effigy vessel of a duck standing on four legs. The globular sides are painted with red and black interlocking triangular shapes on a buff ground. Please note that the feet are restored from new material, and it is unclear if there was some indication to the restorer that this vessel indeed had feet, or perhaps they were added based on a similar Casas Grandes example. Size: 9" L x 7.5" W x 7.8" H (22.9 cm x 19 cm x 19.8 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 031. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
