Ancient Near East, the Levant / Anatolia, Canaanite culture, Bronze Age, ca. 2000 to 1500 BCE. A set of 3 cast-copper weapons including 2 bulb-form mace heads and a gently curves dagger blade. One mace head features a suspension loop emanating off one part of the shoulder, and the other, darker mace head has its interior filled with lead, evidence of how its original handle was attached. The longest weapon is a dagger blade with a thick spine and a pierced tang for attaching handle panels. Size of largest: 10.1" L x 1" W (25.7 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased between December 29, 2015 and October 18, 2020; (knife & 1 mace head): ex-private New York, New York, USA collection; (second mace head): ex-Eastern Dynasty Antiques, Lapeer, Michigan, USA; ex-private American collection, commissioned by the government, acquired in Afghanistan between 1980 and 1982

  • Condition: One mace head is hollow while the other is filled with lead. Slight bending to blade, and light abrasions and earthen deposits across exterior of each item, otherwise in great condition. Nice patina throughout.
