A stunning watercolor painting by Bonnie Halsey-Dutton depicting the ancient ceremonial site known as Bighorn Medicine Wheel in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. The Medicine Wheel is approximately 82 feet in diameter and is comprised of carefully placed stones radiating from a central stone cairn that is about 12 feet in diameter. A very special painting, replete with Halsey-Dutton's impressive artistry as well as historical and cultural significance, and uniquely floated upon a backdrop painted to resemble buffalo hide in a deep acrylic shadowbox frame. Bonnie Halsey-Dutton was born and raised in South Dakota and is inspired by the local cultures where she resides as well as their history. She has provide the following statement about this piece, "In the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming is an amazingly well preserved ancient medicine wheel. It is on top of a high mountain, and is believed to be over 3,000 years old. Who made it and for what exact purpose is unknown. It aligns with many celestial indicators and has symbolic numbers of spokes, cairn and dimensions. It was clearly a ceremonial site of old and continues to be revered by Native Americans and all visitors alike."

Halsey-Dutton has used shadowbox framing to underscore the cultural importance of the theme and suggest a treasured museum artifact. This piece is painted on heavy-weight archival watercolor paper, and the manner of paint application was intended to convey age and weathering. In addition, the paper's deckled edge further imbues the piece with a sense of history.
