Description:

Northwestern Europe, England, London, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A beautiful equal arm scale with pans, made from brass and mounted on a walnut wood base - the classic T-shaped type, that would have used standardized weights to balance with the item being weighed. This is a C. Stevens & Sons scale, the company was established in 1844, at 38 Goswell Road, London. The beam arm is stamped on both sides with their name and address, as well as inspection marks and "4 lb." on the verso left side of the beam. This brass and wood type is impressive and elegant - the classic scale we envision and attribute to "Lady Justice." A stately piece that is in superb condition! Size: 23.5" L x 12" W x 26" H (59.7 cm x 30.5 cm x 66 cm)

Provenance: private Evergreen, Colorado, USA collection; ex-private Denver, Colorado, USA, collection, acquired 1960 to 2000
