Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A fascinating bronze bell still containing its original copper iron alloy clapper! The hollow body presents convex walls and a tall, rounded shoulder surmounted by a suspension loop. A slender, cylindrical clapper hangs from the interior. All is now enveloped in heavy layers of seafoam green patina and earthen encrustations from centuries buried in the earth. Size: 7" L x 4.5" W (17.8 cm x 11.4 cm)

  • Condition: Heavy weathering and surface wear with abrasions and stable hairline fissures as shown. The original clapper has been stuck in place due to age impeding use of bell. Chipping with small repair to clapper of bell. Otherwise, bell is intact with heavy patina and rich earthen encrustations. Old collection label on one side.
