Description:

Southeast Asia, Northeastern Thailand, late Ban Chiang culture, ca. 200 CE. An elegant pottery jar of minimalist form comprised of a bulbous body, a corseted neck, and a flared spout. The red clay exterior has been stamped with striated fabric creating a lovely, textured surface on the bottom half of the vessel nicely complementing its graceful simplicity. Size: 8.3" Diameter x 11.1" H (21.1 cm x 28.2 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998

  • Condition: Rounded base inhibits ability to stand up independently but can be easily propped up with a stand. Professionally repaired with some restoration to small area on side, neck, and rim. Some nicks and abrasions as shown, but otherwise excellent preservation of detail and great earthen deposits and root marks. TL holes near base and beneath rim.
