Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

Ancient Near East, probably Iran/Luristan, ca. 1000 BCE. A large, fine example of a socketed, leaf-shaped spear blade, manufactured using lost wax casting. The socket tapers into a narrow but pronounced ridge that runs the length of the center of the blade. Three shallow incised lines demarcate each side of the ridge on both of the blade's faces. A rivet hole through the base of the socket shows how it was attached to a pole. This region is justifiably famous for its fabulous bronze work, commissioned by nomadic horse lords and often deposited in rock tombs to ornament the warrior dead. Size: 2.95" W x 20.5" H (7.5 cm x 52.1 cm); 20.95" H (53.2 cm) on included custom stand.
