Description:

Middle East, Syria / Lebanon, late 5th century BCE. Wide, cast bronze offering bowl adorned by a low omphalos surrounded by lanceolate petals in relief. The high, concave rim is set off from the base by a sharp bend and two rills. A crack in the rim has been restored. Belongs to the leaf-phiale type after Luschey. 4.2cm H x 17.8cm diameter. Provenance: Formerly Herbert A. Cahn, Basle, 1990's.
