Description:

**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, China, Republic to People's Republic period, ca. 20th century CE. A lovely brass sculpture of a Buddha seated in lotus position atop a lotus throne with hands in a mudra position, all embellished by nice remains of black, gold, and red colored lacquer. Enveloped in layers of robes, the figure gazes outward from heavy-lidded eyes, his face exhibiting elongated brows, a sharp nose, and bow-shaped lips in a gentle smile, flanked by a pair of lengthy ears, stretched from when he once wore lavish adornments before he cast off worldly possessions for the path of enlightenment. The underside of the base has been sealed and stamped with the symbol of a lotus flower with a yin-yang at the center, indicating that this sculpture has been consecrated. Size: 12.8" W x 16.3" H (32.5 cm x 41.4 cm)
