Central Asia, Nepal, ca. 19th century CE. A fine example of a dagger known as a kukri (also khukuri) with a curved profile, a sharpened edge, a pair of shallow incised grooves along the shoulder, a semicircular groove near the tang, and a hand-carved wooden handle with a knob-form pommel. The dagger fits within a leather-covered wooden sheath that is adorned with several high-quality (90%) silver panels that depict spiraling foliate motifs, a regal bird standing amongst four inlaid turquoise stones, and a mask of a demonic deity. Size (w/ sheath): 3.125" W x 20.3" H (7.9 cm x 51.6 cm); (length of blade): 11.375" L (28.9 cm); quality of silver: 90%.

  • Condition: Minor losses and insect damage to areas of sheath, with light indentations to some silver panels, and softening to some finer details. Slight bending to overall form of blade, and nicks to tip and handle. Nice patina throughout sheath and blade.
