Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

Central Asia, Pakistan and northern India, Indo-Persian culture, ca. 19th century CE. A fine example of a forged-steel lance with a wooden shaft inserted into the conical socketing shaft, a dense triangular midsection, and a thin head with a straight central prong flanked by a pair of gently wavy prongs. The base of each trident prong displays a petite etched flower, and the main body bears densely etched foliate motifs enveloping an abstract cruciform emblem in the middle. The trident (known as a trishula) is an incredibly old symbol of power and authority in Hindu mythology and is believed to have been used to sever the original head of the elephant god Ganesh. Size: 84" L x 3.7" W (213.4 cm x 9.4 cm)
