Description:

Southeast Asia, Laos, ca. 19th century CE. A remarkable and quite rare repousse plaque of Buddha, formed from a sheet of over 98% silver. Standing atop a double-lotus plinth, the tranquil figure stands with both hands lying flat on his chest in the pose of contemplation, representing determination and patient understanding. Long robes drape his slender body while his serene visage is crowned by a coiled coiffure and flaming ushnisha. A plaque like this may have served as a votive or protective amulet. Size: 1.6" W x 3.6" H (4.1 cm x 9.1 cm); 4.8" H (12.2 cm) on included custom stand; silver quality: from 98.1 to 98.7%; weight: 6.3 grams
