Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Rattanakosin period, ca. 18th century CE. A fine example of a hollow, cast, gilded bronze depiction of the Buddha seated atop a multi-tiered throne. He sits with his hands in the Dhyana mudra. This is a gesture of meditation, with the hands placed in the lap, right hand on left, with fingers fully stretched out and palms facing upwards. Buddha is depicted with a round face and serene features, with large, closed eyes and a prominent nose and mouth. He has a large ushnisha, signaling his enlightened status. His ears are long, emphasizing his wealth when he was Prince Siddhartha - they have been stretched from wearing large earrings. Size: 1.25" L x 3.55" W x 6.2" H (3.2 cm x 9 cm x 15.7 cm)
