Description:

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A mold-made, grey pottery roofing end cap used for aesthetic appeal. It has an open semi-circular body with raised linear and curvilinear motifs and a three-sided locking space at the bottom, a diagonal front face displaying an open-work five-petaled flower set inside a circular space that comes to a point on the bottom. Roofing caps similar to this example would have numbered in the hundreds if not thousands depending on the size of the roof being embellished. Size: 11.25" L x 5.125" W (28.6 cm x 13 cm).
