Description:

United States, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden doll with an hourglass-shaped body adorned by a carved dress form with a square neckline, a red-painted bodice, a tiny waist, and a full skirt. Her face is very attractive with finely carved naturalistic features and her black-painted caplike head was likely once fitted with a head covering or wig. Note that she once had articulated arms and likely would have been 'dressed' with additional garments. Size: 12.125" H (30.8 cm)

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Richard Wagner collection, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA, acquired in the 1970s
