Description:

Central America, Guatemala, ca. mid-20th century CE. A fine set of six hand-carved wooden slingshots in a plethora of different anthropomorphic and zoomorphic forms. Four slingshots resemble stylized standing humans with either folded, hanging, or raised arms - two nude and two clothed - with the tallest bearing small inset stones within the drilled eyes. Two zoomorphic slingshots accompany the human examples, one depicting the top of an armadillo body with a rabbit head underneath, and the other a standing lion with a bushy tail and almond-shaped eyes. Each "ondilla" (Spanish for slingshot) has either prongs or drilled holes for fastening the sling strand, and all are covered in lustrous brown patina. Size of largest (human w/ inset eyes): 1.75" W x 6.5" H (4.4 cm x 16.5 cm).
