Western Europe, probably England or France, ca. 17th century CE. A beautiful sardonyx cameo depicting the left-facing bust of a woman. The elegant female subject presents with a mounded coiffure, heavy-lidded eyes, and full lips, with a shawl wrapped around her right shoulder that exposes her left breast as it droops slightly below her bosom. The gently beveled edge of the cameo fits snugly within the ovoid bezel of the copper ring setting covered in 30.81% gold gilding and creates an attractive piece meant to be worn and displayed.
