Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Xochipala culture, Mesoamerican Formative Period, ca. 13th to 10th century BCE. An intriguing hand-built pottery figure of a woman standing atop stocky legs and petite feet with delineated toes. The wide hips and ample thighs are indicative of her fertility, and her smooth abdomen and perky breasts taper upward to rounded shoulders and attenuated arms. Her expressive visage is composed of recessed almond-shaped eyes with circular pupils, a petite nose, bared teeth between thick lips, and small ears boasting discoid ear spools, all beneath a finely-textured coiffure. Dark black and red pigment cover the entire figure and imbue it with a characteristic presentation of ancient Mexico. Size: 1.5" L x 2.875" W x 6.75" H (3.8 cm x 7.3 cm x 17.1 cm); 7.8" H (19.8 cm) on included custom stand.
