Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero State, Xochipala culture, Mesoamerican Formative Period, ca. 13th to 10th century BCE. A beautiful, hand-built pottery female figure seated upon crossed legs and wearing shell-adorned footwear. Her red-painted lower body is nude, though she wears a finely-incised shawl with segmented tassels along the lower periphery. Her expressive feminine visage is composed of impressed ovoid eyes and pupils, a slender nose, full lips, discoid earrings, and a smooth brow, all beneath a neatly-arranged coiffure with incised bangs draped almost to her lower back. Size: 1.55" L x 1.9" W x 2.6" H (3.9 cm x 4.8 cm x 6.6 cm).

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s

Small nicks and abrasions to limbs, body, and head, with fading to original pigmentation, and minor softening to some finer details. Light earthen deposits throughout and fine traces of original pigmentation along lower body.
