Nigeria, West Africa, 19th/20th Century. Bronze with fine, aged patina. Anthropomorphic, four-sided bells made from cast metal have a ritual significance among the Yoruba peoples - they are placed on ritual altars and rung only when a priest enters a shrine. The ringing sound is a call to deceased ancestors to come forth and share their wisdom and power with all in attendance and in need.  5.75"H x 3.75"W. Custom steel mount included.
