Description:

Native American, Pan Reservation, Navajo culture ca. 1940s-1950. Wool rug with serrated "x" design. Tag reads "Outline, 2500". This may refer to the Raised Outline technique employed by weavers of the Burntwater, Wide Ruins, and Pine Springs regions. Some Navaho textiles created during the trading post period are not identified with a distinct style. Weavers often were inspired by various designs and motifs, hence the term "Pan Regional" - a phrase coined by trader and author Gilbert Maxwell. This rug is comprised of handspun natural white and brown, handspun aniline red and orange, and handspun vegetal tan wool. 20" x 63"
