Description:

Native American, Navajo culture, ca. 1960s-1970s. Wool rug comprised of natural handspun grey and white, handspun vegetal gold (tan), handspun aniline red and black yarns. The storm pattern is a well-known Navajo rug style that is not designed around a central diamond, but rather is an immediately recognizable geometric composition with a bold central rectangular element linked by diagonal stepped lines to panels at each of the four corners. The symbolism of this design is associated with rainstorms during the growing season. Storm pattern weavers oftentimes represent the Navajo's four sacred mountains, lightning bolts, snowflakes, and waterbugs. 30.5" x 55"
