Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu Culture, ca. 700 to 1470 CE. This vibrantly-colored textile section is comprised of tightly-woven fibers in gold, ruby, brown, and black hues. The composition includes diagonal rows of abstract birds that are either black with golden eyes or golden birds with red eyes, all against a red backdrop. There are also solid-colored rows of black with a central row of yellow running through it. Size: 7.875" L x 5" W (20 cm x 12.7 cm).

Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia from 1971 to 1972
