Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian culture, ca. 3500 BCE. Amazing to find one of these with its body - usually we see them just as separated heads! These are incredibly early pottery figures. Made of reddish fired clay with thin slits for eyes and mouth and a jutting brow, this is a female figure. She has a huge headdress - or possibly hair - that flows up over her head and down her back in a curve. Her body is clearly female, with breasts and her hands on her stomach underneath them. These fired clay figures were produced, starting at the major Valdivian site of Real Alto, roughly five hundred years after similar ones were made in stone. These figures were found near hearths and food preparation areas, as well as in burials of important personages. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.15" W x 4.45" H (2.9 cm x 11.3 cm)
