Pre-Columbian, Basin of Mexico, Cuauhtitlan (Cuautitlan), Preclassic Period, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. An old and interesting pottery figure from a little-seen tradition that seems to have been related to, but separate from, the great city of Teotihuacan. The figure has an abstract face with enormous eyes, a high forehead, and hands resting on its stomach. It is wearing some kind of skirt with two long, dangling tassels from the thigh to the mid-calf. The figure is flat, with no decoration to the back. Size: 1.75" W x 5.2" H (4.4 cm x 13.2 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Peter Arnovick collection, San Francisco, CA acquired around 1980
