Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, ca. 450 to 650 CE. This hand-built vessel depicts a shaman-like figure with an expressive visage. Look closely and you will see that figure's eyes are closed, perhaps indicating that he is a shaman experiencing a trance-like state or even death. This individual is elaborately adorned with a headdress, ear ornaments, and wrist cuffs. He presents a cup-like form, perhaps a container for ceremonial offerings. 5-3/4"T x 3-1/2"W x 5"D Provenance: Ex-Mark Poolos collection, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
