Description:

Pre-Columbian, Veracruz, Mexico, ca. 450 to 650 CE. A charming ceramic flute with an applied, three-dimensional animal and head front legs and paws on its body. Above the mouthpiece is a ring of applied coffee-bean shaped motifs. The animal has a dramatic head, with a wizened brow and huge, mouse- or rat-like ears. Its tongue sticks out from its open mouth. Is this a bat, a dog, a mouse, or a chimera? Either way, it's quite a frightening face to have peering at you as you play this flute! Size: 1.8" W x 8.5" H (4.6 cm x 21.6 cm); 6.45" H (16.4 cm) on included custom stand.
