Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivia, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This ceramic stamp seal, also called pintaderas or sellos, has swirling and angular geometric designs around its cylinder. These stamps were probably used in Valdivian culture to faithfully recreate ritual designs on human bodies. Dimensions: 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 3". Provenance: Ex-private Mcdonald collection, Houston TX, acquired at local gallery or at auction between 1982 and 1994.
