Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Colima, ca. 200 BCE to 500 CE. The earthenware figurine depicts a male with long hair wearing an elaborate headdress and a loincloth. Flat human figurines were frequently placed within shaft-and-chamber tombs in Colima during this time period; similar figures are often described as having a hieratic style with staring eyes and stiff postures. Size: 1-1/2" x 4" x 7-1/4". Provenance: Ex-private Mcdonald collection, Houston TX, acquired at local gallery or at auction between 1982 and 1994.   • Condition: The figurine is not chipped or cracked. There is wear that has removed much of the external decoration, although some remains. There may have been a later repair to small element of the figurine's loincloth.
