Description:

Pre-Columbian, North/Central Coast of Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. An intriguing blackware pottery vessel depicting a pair of stacked water skins. One spout is concave and acts as a fill spout, and the second, taller spout is used for pouring. Water skins were typically made from the hollowed-out carcass of a camelid (llama or alpaca) as their thick hide would mitigate any holes or leaks. Size: 2.8" L x 4.875" W x 6.625" H (7.1 cm x 12.4 cm x 16.8 cm)

Provenance: private Carroll collection, Georgia, USA, by descent; ex-private Jim Carroll collection, Maryland, USA, acquired 1960s
