Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A 94.5% silver ring with a band made up of two loops of flat wire with three twisted wire ropes between and overlaid with three stylized serpents. Two of the snake heads protrude from the sides. This is a fabulous ring with a very unique design that is wearable and certainly full of serpentine symbolism. Snakes had positive connotations in Roman society as they were thought to have healing powers, and protective spirits were believed to take the form of snakes. Size: .875" Diameter (2.2 cm); US ring size 8.75; quality of silver: 94.5%; total weight: 9.8 grams.
