Description:

Northern Greece, Thrace, Late Bronze Age, ca. 700 BCE. A beautiful twisted bronze wire necklace known as a torq (also torc) with a petite curved hook on one terminal. The helical composition has a slightly thicker midsection along which a carinated, spool-shaped bead is displayed. Each corseted half of the bead bears a narrow register of incised crosshatch motifs that give it a personalized presentation, and both the torq body and bead are enveloped in layers of green and brown patina. Size (torq): 6.75" W x 7.2" H (17.1 cm x 18.3 cm); (bead): 1.9" L x 1" W (4.8 cm x 2.5 cm)

  • Condition: Loss to loop clasp opposite hook as shown. Slight bending to overall form, with light encrustations to torq and bead. Great preservation to incised linear motifs on bead and nice patina throughout.
