Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A set of 2 hand-built pottery maskettes, each depicting a "grotesque" - an anthropomorphic subject with exaggerated or wondrous facial features. The first head features a pair of bulging and an elephant-like trunk whereas the second, larger head bears a thick labret, cicatrices across the eyes and cheeks, and a loop-form nose. Size of larger: 1.8" L x 2" W x 2.8" H (4.6 cm x 5.1 cm x 7.1 cm); 4.4" H (11.2 cm) on included custom stand.
