Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A hand-built pottery ocarina in the form of a standing female figure, her arms extended out from her sides with open palms, standing atop delineated legs, and displaying finery on her head and body. The figure also acts as an ocarina - with mouthpiece behind the head and tone holes on the back - that creates a pleasing sound when air is blown into it. Size: 3" L x 5.9" W x 9.4" H (7.6 cm x 15 cm x 23.9 cm); 9.8" H (24.9 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Expected nicks and abrasions, with fading to pigment, light earthen deposits, a couple of stable hairline fissures, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to overall form. Ocarina produces pleasing sound when air is blown into the back of the head.
