Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A set of 2 cast-copper axe heads, each covered in layers of naturally-occurring patina. The first weapon features a horizontal blade that resembles a duck bill, and the larger axe head bears a vertical axe head with a plug-form nodule projecting from behind the socketing shaft. Size of largest: 6.375" L x 1.1" W x 2.5" H (16.2 cm x 2.8 cm x 6.4 cm)

  • Condition: Axe head with horizontal blade has vertical fissure along socketing shaft as shown; larger axe head is intact. Each piece with minor abrasions and nicks, with light earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Nice patina throughout.
