North America, Late Eocene period, ca. 38 to 33.9 million years ago. This is a pair of fossil teeth, located in the remains of their jaw, from an animal of the genus Megacerops. The teeth have large grinding surfaces, reflecting their herbivorous diets. Size: 6.2" L x 8.5" W x 3.3" H (15.7 cm x 21.6 cm x 8.4 cm)
The titanotheres are extinct relatives of horses, rhinos, and tapirs; of which the Brontotherium was the largest, nearly as massive as a modern day African elephant. They had bony projections that looked like rhinoceros horns and that were covered in thick skin.
