Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Guangala / Manteno, ca. 200 BCE to 1100 CE; Mexico, Northern Veracruz, Huastec, Late Classic period, ca. 900 to 1400 CE; West Mexico, Colima, Postclassic period, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A collection of three pottery figures from various Pre-Columbian Mexican and Ecuadorian cultures. The largest figure, from the Colima Periquillos phase, is highly burnished and depicts a standing figure with an oversized head, adorned with a headdress, earspools, and nose ornaments. The smallest, a grayware figurine from Ecuador, features incised lines across its body and headdress. The buff-colored figure, mounted on a stand, is a large fragmentary piece from the Huastec people. Size: 4" L x 1.5" W x 7" H (10.2 cm x 3.8 cm x 17.8 cm)

Provenance: private Bethesda, Maryland, USA collection, acquired via inheritance; ex-private USA collection, acquired in the 1960s - 1970s

    Condition:
  • figure on stand is a large fragmentary piece, missing the legs and right arm as shown, and loss to verso of head and chip to breast. Standing redware figure has a chip to the right armband, but is otherwise intact and excellent. Smallest figure is repaired, head and legs reattached with visible hairline fissures. Chip to tip of nose. Inventory labels on the surfaces of all.

Shipping costs will be added to your invoice at auction's end based on information given when you registered to bid - we strive to offer the most economical shipping costs to ensure safe transit. Our shippers of choice are DHL for International shipments and UPS for domestic shipments, but we are able to ship via other carriers at the buyer's expense as deemed necessary or by request.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
