Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This redware pottery figure depicts a seated individual, with one hand resting on a folded leg and the other supporting the head, conveying a sense of sadness or grief. The eyes, loincloth, and cap retain traces of original white pigment. The figure's complex posture and vacant expression reflect the emotional depth captured in Colima artistry. Unlike many other Mesoamerican cultures, Colima left no above-ground monuments. Instead, their lasting legacy is found in their tombs, where figures like this were placed near the skulls of the deceased, as if mediating between the living and the dead. Size: 5.75" L x 5" W x 7" H (14.6 cm x 12.7 cm x 17.8 cm).
