Description:

Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, 18th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 332 BCE. A group of three steatite and stone amulets featuring a figure of Bes, a scarab, and a bird seal. The amulet of Bes, the Egyptian dwarf god, served as a household protector, believed to ward off malevolent forces, making him a popular talisman. The verso is fitted with a suspension loop. The scarab amulet is carved with a naturalistic insect form, with legs folded under its body. The bird seal features an oval shape, showing a goose or swan twisting its neck back towards its tail. The flat underside is etched with hieroglyphs, and the piece is pierced for suspension. Size of Bes: 1.2" L x 0.6" W (3 cm x 1.5 cm)
