A group of three pottery vessels, each showcasing a distinct form: conical, piriform, and squat globular with a ring-form foot. The Middle Niger Civilization, centered around the city of Djenne-Djenno, was integral to trans-Saharan trade, acting as a hub for exchanging goods like gold, salt, and textiles. Beyond its commercial significance, Djenne-Djenno is known for its ancient pottery traditions, which date back as early as 250 BCE. Size of large conical jar: 6" L x 3.5" Diameter (15.2 cm x 8.9 cm)

  • Condition: Stable pressure crack along the side of the large, squat vessel. Chips and losses to the rim. Losses to the rims of the other two and abrasions to the bodies. Mineral and earthen encrustations on all three.
